Daar het ‘n worsteling tussen hom en ‘n Man (Elohiem) ontstaan, maar Jakob was sterk en is uiteindelik met ‘n mank heupbeen teen dagbreek uit die worsteling ontslaan, waarop Jakob gevra het vir ‘n seën en sy naam is toe daar deur Elohiem verander na “Israel”.
