UNDERSTANDING PENTECOST AND THE FEAST OF WEEKS

Fifty days after the Savior had been resurrected, the disciples gathered in Jerusalem for the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot.

This important feast commemorated when Moses received the Law on Mount Sinai.

As the disciples celebrated with tens of thousands of other Jews from around the world, the Holy Spirit came down upon the disciples as flames of fire.

Today this is known as the day of Pentecost. As we better understand the historical background of the feasts, we can gain greater insight into the importance of Pentecost and our own worship of the Lord.

UNDERSTANDING PENTECOST AND THE FEAST OF WEEKS

PENTECOST: Acts 1 – 7

The book of Acts shows how God fulfilled His ancient promises to restore His blessing to all the nations through the offspring of Abraham: YaHUsha of Nazareth.

In this video, we’ll explore how YaHUsha and the Spirit renew the people of Israel and prepare them to announce good news to the nations. This video was created by The Bible Project.

PENTECOST: Acts 1 – 7

THE TEN HORNS OF THE BEAST

Now that the heads of the beast were identified in the previous document (see: THE HEADS OF THE BEAST), this document is an attempt to identify the horns of the beast according to the history that developed  after that on the territory of the original Roman Empire as the sixth head of the beast.

Horns as a depiction of war power, were worn by kings on their heads, but it later softened to crowns with points.

It gives us an understanding of the prophetic symbolism of the horns.  It has to be compared to the various ruling powers that came into being after the fall of the Roman Empire, as the horns correspond to the ten toes of the Image of Dan. 2.  The toes clearly still fall into the category of the ancient Roman Empire according to the dream of Nebuchadnezzar.

PENTECOST

Pentecost is about the wheat harvest and is also called Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) because it is calculated by counting off 50 days after the 1st Sabbath after Passover.

The good seed of wheat represents believers/children of the Kingdom of Heaven.  John the Baptist prophesies that the Messiah will baptise the “wheat” with the Set Apart Spirit.

THE ASSEMBLY OF PHILADELPHIA

Philadelphia was the least distinguished of the cities of the Seven Churches.  It was the latest to take on importance as a city, and only a few ruins are visible now.  However, on the positive side, it was located on the outer edge of Hellenistic civilizatian and the Christian faith, and therefore had grave responsibilities for spreading the thought patterns and activities of these transforming powers.  Furthermore, Philadelphia and Smyrna were the only two churches among the Seven about which nothing bad was said by John.

DIE GEMEENTE VAN FILADELFIA

Filadelfia beteken “broederliefde”.

THE HEADS OF THE BEAST

The belief in a dragon or monster from the water or from the sea is as old as mankind itself.  Dragons are still revered in the East, but there are also tribes in Africa that still believe in a seven-headed snake that stays in the water and can turn you into a nasty witch doctor.

Daniel sees in Dan. 7:7 a monster with ten horns that rose from the sea (Dan. 7:3) which was symbolic of the later Roman world empire of the New Testament.

Revelation 12:3 connects to the prophecy of Daniel 7:7 when the devil is depicted as a dragon with seven crowned heads and ten horns.
